from your favourite person in the whole wide world I really like your Dear reader letter. Your style of writing is very unique and you make it your own. I am also happy that we share a love of the thesaurus. Also, your paragraph on the I-Search was really intresting. Next year you should should rock on with your bad self

Kayla's response Grace, Gracey,
It sounds like you have improved since last year and that you feel that this is a challenge, which is good!
What really stood out to me is that is that you feel that you were not challenged before this year.
Keep continuing on working hard and you will become a better writer!! (:

Peer Feedback Great job on your letter. I could really tell how you grew as a reader and writer this year. Overall there are few errors and the evidence in your work is easy to identify. Good job altogether.

This year has been one of much growth for me in analytical and descriptive writing. In past years I have not written much analytical writing anyways. And when school started last September, I would only write so much about a subject before moving on to something else. Detail was hard for me. Now, with more analytical writing assessments, I can push myself to think more deeply about my writing and make it more interesting for the reader. I had trouble at the beginning of the year with connecting my work to real life. Now it's easy for me to think more intensely about my topic and relate it to the world. This catches the reader better than just summarizing my topic and involves them in thinking about it. Comparing my first quotation analysis to my last quotation analysis, you can see the difference in my analysis and development. And with the last two pieces you can see my best descriptive writing this year.
I have improved on many of my prior skills this year. I have always had trouble finding quotes for papers but this year, that has become easier. I am most proud of my I-Search paper this year. It was very daunting when we first got the assignment and it turned out to be a lot of hard work, but I finished on time and had the longest paper I have ever written. I was also really scared to do an interview but that turned out to be fairly easy also. I am proud of all the work I did to complete such a big project. I did not include any I-Search pieces in my portfolio because I felt like they didn't display my best work, even though the project was by far the one that I am most proud of. I have also progressed as a reader in that I challenged myself to read books that may have been harder for me or just books that I wouldn't normally pick up to read. A few pieces I chose to display, show my scrutiny of some assigned reading. Overall, I pushed myself to do my very best in reading, writing, and researching this year. I challenged myself and learned a lot.

I have chosen my last two quotation analysis to show how I have improved with analysis. My third QA, 2. QA 3 , shows how my connections to real life have become stronger. It's about the short story, B.B. In the last paragraph I talk about the actual quote itself and relate it to humans. I am really proud of myself for looking at my weak points and improving greatly on them.
My last quotation analysis, 3. QA 4 , was by far the best QA I have written all year. We had to chose our own quote from Romeo and Juliet and I chose one that I both analyzed well and made good connections. In the second paragraph I didn't summarize. Instead I took a look at the character and the quote itself. My writing in this piece just looks better than my first QA. It's more intellectual and interesting.

My last piece, 5. Mango Street Essay, shows the development and organization I can produce now in my writing. I had clearly thought out ideas about The House on Mango Street and organized my essay so it was easy for the reader to understand. I think the fact that I had one subject to write about helped me write a strong essay.
Next year might be hard for me in research and sighting. I actually like research because I can learn a lot while doing it, but sometimes I have to push myself to read articles that may be hard for me to understand. I still need to work on my research habits. During I-search, I learned a lot about sighting resources the right way too, but I need to work on remembering how and finding reliable sites. I am always going to have to push myself to do assigned reading too, but that is something I will work on next year for my AP literature class. So far, this has been the biggest year of improvement for me as a writer, reader, and researcher.

Dear Reader,
I am very proud of all of my progress in English this year. Since September, I have come along way as a reader, writer, and researcher. Every other English class I have taken, until this year, has been honestly, not much of a challenge. This year I have been challenged to read books I didn't necessarily like, write longer papers than ever, and site sources the right way.

My first writing piece is 1. QA 1, our first quotation analysis assessment. It's about the book London Calling. This piece shows my skills at the beginning of the year. I should have developed each paragraph more – the first two needed more specific discussion of the quote itself and what it can show, while the last needed a deeper discussion of those connections I discussed briefly. I would say something but move on to the next topic without explaining what I meant. All of my work shows my good summary skills, but this one shows my aversion to analysis.

Grace's Portfolio Grace has really grown this year as a writer. I especially liked her ISearch project and am so impressed she chose such a difficult subject to research. I love how she realized how much she improved over the course of the year, by reviewing all of her writing. I'm really proud of her progress this year!
